3600 HP Utility Tug for Sealink
Building to their own account, Sealink Sdn Bhd of Miri Sarawak East Malaysia are nearing completion of a 3,600-hp utility tug. The 40 by 11.8-m Sealink Maju 8 will be powered by a pair of Cummins KTA50 M2 engines each generating 1800 hp at 1800 rpm. The engines turn fixed pitch four-blade propellers in nozzle through Twin disc 5507 gears. To give the tug a bollard pull of approximately 45 tons. A pair of Cummins powered 150 kW generators provides electrical power. The main deck is fitted with a single drum 50-ton towing winch with capacity for 850m of 44mm wire. the vessel can make 12 knots but has an economic 11-knot speed with a 5,500 nautical mile rang at 10 knots. The afterdeck, with a five-ton per square meter strength, can carry 300 tons of cargo. Electric sservice is provided for transporting reefers on deck. Crash rails are 1.5m high on either side of the main deck with a safe haven provided. Accomodation includes three single-berth, one double-berth and four three berth staterooms each with an attached washroom. All cabins are air-conditioned. The Sealink Maju 8 is also fitted with a dispersant system incorporating two thre-meter spray booms.
